The photo shows a woman on the rooftop sweeping, a reminder that many poor people in Cairo live in places they should not, but lack alternatives. Rooftops are the mixture of public and private. They are exposed to the public, but as a place of residence they become private at the same time. Most people on the street, however, cannot look into the rooftops, but only those located high enough can gaze upon them.
